For those of you who are unfamiliar with J Dilla (James Yancey), he was celebrated as “one of the music industry’s most influential hip-hop artists, working with big-name acts like A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes and Common” to name a few. His career tragically came to an end in 2006 when he died of blood disease at the age of 32.

In 2006 Dilla’s mother established the J Dilla Foundation to help fund inner city music programs. The program promotes the study of hip hop, R&B, and other celebrated genres in higher education while providing scholarships to underprivileged youth. We think it’s a pretty cool organization and hope you do too.
